PALM BEACH, Fla. - Elite Decorative Arts today announced
that a vintage Cartier silver, opal, and diamond inlay box with a
magnificent floral design on top realized $47,150.00. This sale represents a
30 percent increase over any other Cartier box of its kind auctioned
throughout the world.
The details on this Cartier box are remarkable, with the top featuring gold,
abalone, opal, and 11 stunning inlaid diamonds. Each corner of the top has a
round cut red coral set and each foot has a mother of pearl inlay with a red
enamel border. The inside has a wood lining and is marked with "Cartier
Paris New York Made in France" under lid. The box measures 2 1/4" height x 6
3/8" width x 3 3/4" in depth.
"Today's auction was a landmark event that set a world auction record for a
rare and historic Cartier box. The sale was inspired by fevered bidding that
resulted in the strongest sales," said Chris Hayes, president of Elite

The Cartier box was purchased by a private collector.
